Textile Drumheads

Handwoven Drumheads

These drumheads are woven by hand on my studio looms. The yarn blend includes at least fifty percent synthetic fibers to ensure durability, stability, and a clear, resonant sound.

Handweaving allows me to create unique patterns, textures, and visual elements. It also makes it possible to integrate meaningful details such as color choices, floating threads, or special materials chosen for symbolic or personal reasons. Each drumhead is developed and finished in the studio to achieve its final sound and feel.

Hand-Dyed Drumheads

For these drumheads, I work with high-quality textiles that I dye by hand using folding, resist, and layering techniques. This process creates rich, expressive color patterns and a distinctive surface. While these fabrics do not carry the structural variations of handwoven pieces, they offer a strong visual identity and respond beautifully when transformed into drumheads.

Yarn & Color

Many of the yarns used in my weaving are dyed in the studio, which gives each handwoven drumhead its own tone and appearance even before the sound is shaped.

Materials

None of my drums contain animal skin.

Some drumheads are made entirely from vegan materials, while others combine natural fibers such as wool or silk with synthetic yarns to balance structure, responsiveness, and sound quality.

Every textile drumhead is prepared with an internal coating to support resonance and ensure long-lasting stability.

Frame

Most drums are built on beech wood frames for strength and tonal clarity. Available diameters are 35 cm (13.8 in), 40 cm (15.7 in), 45 cm (17.7 in), and 50 cm (19.7 in), each with a frame depth of 6 cm (2.4 in).

If you already have a frame or prefer a different one, I can mount a textile drumhead onto your chosen frame. These heads can also be adapted for other types of drums, including djembes, drum kits, or custom percussion instruments.
