Drum Skins
I work with two kinds of drum skins:
Handwoven Skins
Woven by me on one of my two handlooms, these surfaces contain at least 50% synthetic yarn to ensure durability and a clear, resonant sound. Handweaving allows me to shape texture and integrate personal or symbolic elements such as specific sound qualities, colors, yarn, floating threads, unusual materials like wood and beads etc. This process is entirely customizableHand-Dyed Fabrics
In this case, the fabric is purchased and not handwoven, but is dyed by hand in my studio using natural resists, folds, and layering techniques. These surfaces offer rich color patterns and a refined finish, though without structural variation.
Yarn & Color
Many of the yarns used in my weaving are hand-dyed, giving each drum a unique tone and appearance even before sound comes into play.
Materials
None of my drums contain animal skin.
Some models are 100% vegan, while others include natural fibers such as wool or silk, combined with synthetic yarns for structure and sound quality.
The textile surfaces are always coated on the inside, either with a synthetic layer or a blend of natural and synthetic materials, to ensure resonance, and longevity.
Frame
Most drums are built on beech wood frames, known for their strength and tonal stability. Available sizes are 35 cm (13.8 in), 40 cm (15.7 in), 45 cm (17.7 in), and 50 cm (19.7 in) in diameter, each with a frame depth of 6 cm (2.4 in).
If you already have a frame or prefer a different one, I’m happy to mount the textile onto your chosen frame. These drum heads can also be adapted for other types of drums, such as djembes, drum kits, or custom percussion instruments.
